Deer Valley Pedalfest
Deer Valley Resort, Saturday June 11, 2011
State Championship, USA Cycling Nationals
qualifierWith a record-setting late snow melt,
the Deer Valley Pedalfest underwent a
minor trail re-route to avoid snow on the upper slopes of Deer Crest. But
the
shorter loop was dry and in great condition. The only mud was just uphill
from the start line, where a large snowbank was feeding the sloppy slope
below. UMB saw some great individual efforts. Rachel Hutchings took 1st
place. UMB had 2nd-place finishes by Mark Messer, Joel Quinn, Ian Beaty,
and Richard Ewell.

UMB had 30 racers at Deer Valley. It was a
big race, as it was the State Championship and a qualifier for the USAC
nationals. The weather and trail conditions were better than expected, and
the day turned out great -- for most of us. The team had four riders who
weren't able to complete the race. With only four races to go, it's going
to be a close fight for the team season championship. More pictures:

Hutchings photos from the race. Thanks, Kay!
