The Clear Creek Applecross trails are the middle section of a large riding area that lies east of Zion National Park. Page updated July 2024 for new trail names.

The Applecross trail system lies just outside the eastern entrance to Zion National Park. Multiple ride options from easy to high-expert. This page describes the lower trails. Season late May through November. Update July 2024 for new trails.

The Upper Applecross trails lie above the North Fork Road east of Zion National Park, as one of three groups of trails within the Applecross riding area. They can be reached by car or by connecting through from the lower trail system. Updated July 2024 for new trails.

Beaver Bench trails. Trail system where the town of Beaver meets the mountains east of Beaver. DH flow, XC. Easier riding. Season June through October.

Big Rock Candy Mountain (Candy Mountain Express). Easy 7-mile paved bike path on old railroad route up Sevier Canyon. Great family ride. Season May through October.

Black Hill. (Ephraim) Riding area in Wildlife Management Area. Multiple trails of varying difficulty and length. Navigation can be complex. Season May through November.

Blowhard Mountain. Steep advanced-technical downhill trail, starts near Cedar Breaks at high altitude. Nice views. One-way (7 miles downhill) with shuttle, or loop up to top with brutal 12-mile road climb. Season late June through mid-September.

Boulder Dash. Short but very technical trail in the Iron Hills trail system, linking the lower part of Green Hollow to upper Lava Flow. Season late May through October.

Brian Head Park. Lift-served biking on multiple trails in the Giant Steps ski area. Intermediate technical. Season June through mid-September.

A Must-Ride Classic! Downhill from Brian Head peak towards Panguitch Lake. Shuttle available. Intermediate technical. Views galore. Season June through mid-September.

Cassidy trail to Losee Canyon Loop. Riding among fresh-water limestone hoodoos in Red Canyon area. Intermediate technical. Season May through October.

Casto Canyon. ATV-track trail through a red-rock wonderland. Light but steady climb, easier-intermediate technical. Option of loop or out-and-back. Season May through October.

Cedar City paved bike paths. Coal Creek paved trail runs from northern Cedar City up into the canyon along Highway 14; East Bench Trail runs from SR 14 skirting the southeastern side of the city to the south freeway exit. Season year-round, snow permitting.

Dark Hollow. A Must-Ride Classic, newly rebuilt! 12-mile downhill, half engineered flow trail and half fun dirt road starts on Brian Head peak, ends on road to Parowan. Commercial shuttle service available. Intermediate technical skills suggested. Forest riding after initial views. Season June through mid-September.

Eagle Point (Monarch Mountain) Trails. High-altitude trails at ski resort in Beaver Canyon. Short loop (Monarch Mountain Trail) and downhill-preferred (Eagle Egress). Season July through September.

Elevate and Black Ops. Short bidirectional trail near Cedar City, reached via the Turnpike trail. Followed by Black Ops DH-only trail to form a loop.

Ephraim Canyon singletrack system. Easier non-technical riding in Ephraim Canyon, great views, multiple ride options. Season June through October.

Evil Water. Parowan Canyon. Short trail system consists of lariat loops Electric Avenue and Megawatt. Easier riding technically and aerobically, suitable for beginners. Season May through October.

Fireman's Trail ("M" trail), Manti. Trail right on the edge of Manti climbs the hill east of town. Viewpoint into Manti Canyon and a visit to the "M" on the mountain. Upper-intermediate, moderate climbing. Season May through October.

Mytoge Mountain. (Fish Lake) Singletrack runs around Fish Lake, climbs Mytoge Mountain to the south. Moderate climb, intermediate technical. Season June through September.

Flume Trail, Ephraim Canyon. DH trail along edge of old flume path, then plunges steeply to valley. Top altitude 6900. 5 mile loop or 2.7 mile DH with shuttle. Expert. Season May through November.

Green Hollow and Highlands Trails. Trail from the junction of Lichen It with Lava Flow, extending up to Greens Lake Drive. Part of Iron Hills trail system. Intermediate technical. Reached via Lichen It Trail from downhill, option to shuttle to top. Season May through October.

Hog Canyon (Kanab). ATV trail system with substantial climbing and loose sand. Advanture ride for very strong experienced riders with fat-tire bikes. Season March through mid-December.

Iron Springs and M&M Loop. Intermediate-level trails on the south side of Three Peaks, connecting the loop to the Iron Springs Resort. Season May through October.

Iron Springs DH flow trails. Intermediate-level trails on the south side of Three Peaks with option of big loop or direct climb via ATV track. Season May through October.

Jackson Flat Reservoir paved bike trail 3.6 mile paved loop around a reservoir south of Kanab. Very scenic and fun for families. Also used extensively by local roadies. Season March through December.

Kanab Singletrack Loops Raven and Roadrunner. Short loops on the north edge of Kanab, with larger system planned. Season March through December.

Lava Link. On the upper mountain, this trail joins the top of loops from Southview and Shurtz Canyon for loop ride option. Season May through October.

Lichen It. Easier two-way trail on the south end of Cedar City, climbs lower part of C mountain. Part of Iron Hills system, connects to Lava Flow downhill flow trail. Season May through October.

Lightning Switch and Ghost Falls. Heavily switchbacked Lightning switch trail climbs (or descends) from Thunderbird Garden trailhead near Cedar City. Often done as a loop including Ghost Flats. Season late April through October.

Lil Ratlr. Very short loop (1/2 mile) around the trailhead at Thunderbird Gardens. Season May through October.

Lowder Ponds. High-altitude loop starting on Brian Head Peak. Visits a few ponds, then climbs back up. Forest plus views. Significant uphill is brutal at this altitude. Season June through August.

Marathon Trail. Route from Brian Head to Duck Creek and Navajo Lake. Some singletrack, lots of dirt forest road. Long ride (24 miles or more), shuttled versus very taxing out-and-back or long loop with road return. Season July through September.

Navajo Lake Loop. Singletrack loop around Navajo Lake, links to the Virgin River Rim Trail. A little climbing, easy-intermediate technical. Season June through September.

Pahvant Cottonwood Kids Loop (Richfield). Nice 1.7 mile loop at the northern end of the Pahvant system, designed for true beginners and kids. Season mid-May through October.

Pahvant Trails (Richfield) UPPER. Evolving web page to cover new trails in the upper half of the Pahvant riding area. Season mid-May through October.

Pahvant Trails (Richfield). Excellent and scenic trail system with both easy and more-technical options, with trailhead right of the I-70 freeway in Richfield. Season mid-May through October.

NICA race loop at the mouth of Red Canyon near Panguitch. On non-racedays, ride from the Casto Canyon trailhead. Easy riding with light climbing.

Paradise Canyon. Advanced-tech downhill turns off Dark Hollow trail to drop down Paradise Canyon. Exposed cruise on shoulder of Brian Head peak, then beautiful lush forested singletrack, then a few miles on dirt road. Season July through September.

Pioneer Trail, Ephraim Canyon. 3-mile DH trail drops 1400 vertical from 8300 elevation. Loop or shuttle. Often combined with Flume Trail for longer DH. Expert. Season late July to October.

White Hill (Pigeon Hollow) is a riding area just north of Ephraim. The main loop is called Quarry Hills. Old fashioned singletrack through the cedars.

Rainbow Rim (Grand Canyon North Rim). 18-mile (one way) trail along the edge of the Grand Canyon. Connects 5 trailheads/viewpoints. Season June through early October.

Red Canyon Paved Trail. Smooth paved trail up scenic Red Canyon, near Bryce Canyon. Mild climbing. Beautiful surroundings. Good family trail. Season late April through mid-November.

Red Hollow Cedar City. Trail connects Highway 14 to the top of Thor's Hideout in the northern riding area east of Cedar City. Intermediate technical, but a fairly stiff climb if done as an out-and-back. Season April through November.

Razorback (Red Mountain) Cedar City. Twisty technical singletrack in sawtooth terrain on the edge of Cedar City. Advanced technical, some rough climbs but not much altitude gain overall. Season April through November.

Roundabout and Scenic Byway are very easy trails just outside the Pyramid Ridge campground south of Cedar City. Reached via the Turnpike trail. Suitable for kids and true beginners.

Scout Camp Loop. Loop ride from Brian Head resort connects to the Dark Hollow trail, then loops around to return to Brian Head resort area. Forested riding, intermediate technical. Season June through September.

Side Hustle is a short technical rock-bashing alternate line off the Turnpike in Iron Hills at Cedar City.

Skyline Drive. This is a dirt road stretching 75 dirt miles at 10,000 feet. The Skyline Drive is the alpine equivalent of the White Rim Trail -- a multi-day bike ride on dirt road with incredible views. Perfect for a scout troop to ride their bikes to the next camping spot on a 3 or 4 day trip. It's possible to ride the whole thing in one day, but certainly not easy. You'll need a support vehicle, strong lungs, and iron legs.

Southview Skills Track. Small skills park at Cedar City's Southview trailhead. Non-stressful riding for kids and mixed groups. No big stuff or tricky challenges.

C Trail. Twisty downhill on the mountain above Cedar City. Use shuttle or make loop by riding paved road or gravel hill-climb. Advanced-intermediate technical. If loop, significant climb. Season mid-April through October.

Thor's Hideout. First trail of a planned system of trails north of Highway 14 in the mountains east of Cedar City. Upper-intermediate technical, moderate climb. Season April through November.

Three Peaks Big Hole Loop. This is a ride in the northern end of the Three Peaks system west of Cedar City. Intermediate in effort and tech requirement.

Three Peaks Loop - Big Hole Loop. Popular loop rides within the Three Peaks riding area. Season late March through November.

Three Peaks Trail System. Series of connected loops located on granite mountains west of Cedar City. Three loops vary from 5 miles upper-beginner to 10 miles advanced. Rock in picnic-camping area open to riding for stunts, drops, tech challenges. Season April through early November.

Thunder Mountain. A Must-Ride Classic! Red-rock singletrack near Bryce Canyon. Great views, interesting terrain. Intermediate technical with some areas of advanced. As a downhill with shuttle, occasional climbing. As an up-and-back, a significant climb. Season mid-April through October.

Tilted Mesa is located 10 miles east of Kanab. Multiple trail loops of varying difficulty. Expected season May through October.

Tom's Canyon and Pugh Canyon (Kanab). Three-mile ride in Tom's Canyon on the edge of Kanab. Pretty, fun up-and-down riding on narrow singletrack. Intermediate technical. Page includes info on Pugh Canyon.

Tombstone. 2-mile expert-level trail above Shurtz Canyon at Cedar City. Season late May through October.

Towhead is a 4-mile two-way trail between the Skyline Drive and Huntington Reservoir. Page includes loop option with Mammoth, Spring Canyon or ATV Route 12.

Turnpike. Cedar City Iron Hills area. Easy 4.4-mile out-and-back trail contours the mountain. Season mid-May through November.

Three Peaks Twilight Zone and Petrified Whales. This page covers newer areas of the Three Peaks riding area, including the Twilight Zone "Whale Trails." Season late March through November.

Twisted Forest. Dirt and gravel road ride to foot path in Twisted Forest -- fascinating bristlecone pines in red-rock breaks, cliff view, views of Cedar Breaks. Option of continued ride to hilltop with 270 degrees of valley views! Easy technical. Short version or longer ride with climb. Season June through September.

Valhalla Trail. Tougher trail links 13th Hole near the top to the Thunderbird Gardens trailhead.
